I am absolutely over the moon. I have been offered the post of Artist in Residence at Lincoln Cathedral for 2015 / 2016. Obviously, there is some competition for a fantastic opportunity like this, so I have been keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for the post to arrive with news about my application for weeks!

During the term of residence my aim is to produce a series of illuminated work inspired by the Cathedral’s own illuminated manuscripts, the building itself and Biblical texts. There is a studio space high up in the north west transept with a spectacular view over St Hugh’s Choir – I’m told it is doesn’t get too warm up there, which will be perfect for gilding. At the end of the year there will be an exhibition of my work which will run for about four weeks.

What a place to work!

What a place to work!

I had the choice of when to start. Ideally, that would be tomorrow! However, the summer is absolutely chock full of exhibitions and teaching commitments so I will have to be patient and start in September. Meanwhile, I’m very much looking forward to meeting everybody at the Cathedral, especially the librarian Julie Taylor.
