There are few of us, worldwide, who teach the traditional skill of illumination. It is a craft classified as ‘endangered’ so it’s vital that we pass these skills on to the next generation.
I strongly believe that the best way of teaching illumination is to individuals and small groups, ideally face to face. That gives participants the chance to ask questions, troubleshoot and refine their work. For this reason, you won’t see me ‘teaching’ groups of 200 on Zoom. Although I’ve enjoyed calligraphy classes broadcast to a large audience, I don’t think it offers the best learning experience for this particular craft.
All my face-to-face classes are small (absolute maximum 15). Many people repeat a class several times, taking the opportunity to work on their own projects with my help and advice.
I offer individual tuition and long term mentoring if time allows. I do give the occasional online class (maximum 12 participants) and have a dedicated private Facebook group for the support of my students.
I do hope you will join me in learning this wonderful craft one day.
